SISTERS, OR— Today, Deschutes County Commissioner Patti Adair, candidate for Oregon’s 5th Congressional District, asked Janelle Bynum why she voted against four bipartisan bills that would strengthen Oregon schools' security. Commissioner Adair stated the following:

“During the 2023 Oregon legislative session, four bills were voted on that would strengthen school security at every school in Oregon. These bills were (HB 3101): Classroom panic alerts, (HB 2223): Armed School Resource Officers, (HB 3261): Secure school entrances, (HB 3350): School security improvements. On every single one of these pieces of legislation, Janelle Bynum voted no. She voted against protecting our kids.”

“On Sunday on the Rep. Janelle Bynum X account, Congresswoman Bynum said, “We need to protect our babies better.” She had that opportunity and failed us. Protecting our kids is not partisan, supporting school security is not partisan, and having a dedicated school resource officer is not partisan. Parents deserve leaders who will work together to deliver practical solutions. Our leaders must also be held responsible for their decisions. Our children deserve action that will protect them, not talking points or empty rhetoric.”

“Why did Janelle Bynum vote against protecting our kids?”
