SISTERS, OR— Deschutes County Commissioner Patti Adair, candidate for Oregon’s 5th Congressional District, signed the Silver Rail Strong: Turning Tragedy Into Change petition. Commissioner Adair invites Congresswoman Janelle Bynum to do the same. Commissioner Adair stated the following:

“The petition, started by Trey Heiss, a Silver Rail Elementary parent, asks the Bend-La Pine School District to take concrete steps following the tragedy this past Thursday. These steps include placing dedicated School Resource Officers at every school, conducting independent security assessments, reviewing emergency response plans with law enforcement, establishing a parent-led school safety advisory committee, and providing a written response within 30 days with timelines and accountability.”

“Parents and our children deserve real action to improve school safety. This petition lays out practical steps of how we can make our schools safer and protect our kids. In Congress, I will do everything I can to fight for federal resources and funding for Oregon school districts so they can implement stronger safety measures, including School Resource Officers, and improved emergency planning. I invite Congresswoman Janelle Bynum to join me in signing this pledge.”
