Commissioner Patti Adair Calls on Janelle Bynum To Disavow Graham Platner and Call For Him To Drop Out of Maine Senate Race

SISTERS, OR- Today, Deschutes County Commissioner and Republican nominee for Oregon’s 5th Congressional District, Patti Adair, called for Congresswoman Janelle Bynum to do the right thing and join the bipartisan calls for Graham Platner to drop out after disturbing allegations of rape. Commissioner Adair stated the following:

“Janelle Bynum needs to do the right thing and join her fellow Democrat House colleagues, Representative Ro Khanna and Representative Madeleine Dean, in calling for Graham Platner to drop out of the Maine Senate race after the disturbing allegation that he raped his former girlfriend. I am disappointed that Representative Bynum has waited this long to do so. Graham Platner should have dropped out the moment it came out he had a Nazi tattoo, or when it was revealed he sent explicit pictures to other women while being married, and after this allegation he certainly needs to go.

Janelle Bynum has a very concerning record on this issue. From being the only 'no' vote on HB 3293 during the 2019 Oregon legislative session, a bill that extended the statute of limitations for rape victims, to allegations of her covering up the sexual assault of a minor volunteer who worked on her campaign in 2022, to defending former State Representative Diego Hernandez, who was accused of sexual harassment and later resigned. Janelle Bynum has a troubling past of ignoring victims and siding with alleged predators. This is not a partisan issue nor a political issue. Janelle Bynum has an obligation to do the right thing and speak out against Graham Platner. Congresswoman Bynum, disavow Platner and call for him to drop out.”
